Kingsbury Place Apartment

New residential development located on a 4.26-acre parcel.  The development includes 11 separate buildings – 10 residential building and one community center – retaining walls, private road, parking facilities, public sanitary sewer and water main extensions, stormwater management system and a 60,000-gallon rainwater storage facility for re-use as irrigation.

Provided structural, electrical, mechanical, HVAC, fire protection, site design, site plan approval submittals and coordination with team members, municipalities and utility companies.

Project received Green Communities Certification. This project consisted of a full residential housing development from the schematic phase through construction.  The public utility extension required municipality review, approval, and MDEQ permitting.

Hughes Medical Office Building

New 3 story Medical Office Building with lower level Parking with Second-floor walkout to upper-level parking constructed for Spectrum Health Ambulatory Surgical Care.

A hybrid heat pump/central air handling system was designed for the mechanical system.

The building emergency power is served by a diesel generator. Gas and electrical services are separately metered for all tenants and BTU meters are used for domestic water and hot water heating. The 2nd-floor surgery suite was designed for a 24/7 day operation

Heritage Pointe

A new two story 66,200 SF office building plus a lower level parking/ storage space.

Structural Engineering included foundation design in accordance with soil boring and geotechnical engineering report requirements; Superstructure design including all necessary framing plans and details and design includes provisions for all mechanical and electrical equipment incorporated into the project.

Mechanical Engineering included Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) design to meet ASHRAE standards and recommendations for the building including ductwork and piping design for a heat pump system, including the gas piping; Plumbing design includes domestic water, storm, and sanitary sewer systems; Fire protection performance specifications along with sprinkler head layout.

Electrical Engineering included site lighting design. Interior power distribution design and power service to the site along with coordination with the utility. Separate metering for the future tenant is provided; Interior lighting design for the common areas including branch circuiting and switching, interior telephone and data processing system provisions including empty conduit and junction box locations; Telephone service provisions on the site, including coordination with the utility and Fire Alarm system design for common areas.

 

Grand Rapids Public Schools Lincoln Campus

The project included the separation of domestic hot water (DHW) and pool heating systems at both the main and LDC buildings. DHW heater replacement at the KVO building DHW heater replacement at the powerhouse building.

Air system duct repairs and/or replacement, primary cooling pump replacement, control of cooling pumps, piping and insulation repairs and/or replacement, primary heating pump replacement and control of heating pumps

Boiler replacement in the powerhouse building, and re-balancing of all air/water systems. Services also included attending construction progress meeting and construction administration services.

Dr. Hart Animal Hospital

The Dr. Hart Animal Hospital facility is a 5,500 square foot facility.

The facility includes waiting area, administrative offices, four exam rooms, 12 stall kennel, surgery suite, laboratory, pharmacy, and x-ray room with lead shielding.

The building is a single story wood framed structure with slab-on- grade floors.  The kennel area received special 2 part epoxy coating on floors and vinyl exterior siding.

Site design required coordination with and approvals from Thornapple Township ordinances, Barry-Eaton County Health Department, State Health Department, Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) and State of Michigan Building Code for plan approval.

HVAC system provided for substantial odor control measures along with energy recovery unit to minimize energy consumption while providing effective odor control.

Edgewood Activity Center

Edgewood Village is a new 5,000 square foot community activity center.  The project includes offices, kitchen, a conference room, computer room and multi-purpose areas.  The project is LEED Silver certified.

Structural engineering for the building included structural steel frame with glulam beams, I-Joists, and Structural-Insulated-Panel roof and wall system.  Concrete floors were exposed polished colored concrete.

Mechanical engineering included HVAC design of a split furnace system with energy recovery units and building energy management System controls with CO2 sensors for optimization of energy usage.  Design also included plumbing design of domestic water, sanitary sewer and gas piping.

Electrical engineering included Interior power distribution design, Interior lighting design including branch circuiting and switching, Interior telephone and data processing system provisions including empty conduit and junction box locations site Lighting and PV system design

East Grand Rapids Community Complex

The East Grand Rapids Community Center project includes both renovation and expansion of the Library, City Hall, City Council Chambers, City Engineering, and Grounds Department. Two separate buildings were interconnected to expand the existing facilities.

The total project size is 52,000 square feet with a construction cost of $7.8 million.  Portions of the facility remained in operation during the construction period.

This project received LEED Silver certification.  Energy saving features include daylight harvesting to reduce lighting levels at the building perimeter and energy saving HVAC controls system featuring variable frequency drive fans.  A new Building Automation System was provided to incorporate lighting, occupancy, and demand ventilation control for energy credits. The project required new electrical service and relocation of the existing emergency generator to accommodate the new addition. A snowmelt system was provided for the public sidewalks and entrances.

The existing buildings were supported on driven steel H-piles due to poor soil conditions.  The new building additions were supported on 60 foot deep auger-cast-concrete piles with pile caps and grade beams.

WMU Davis Dining Hall

Engineering services to renovate 13,200 sf kitchen and dining hall.

New lighting design and daylight harvest controls to enhance dining food services. Dining service facilities to include fireplace, restrooms and janitorial. HVAC ventilation and heat with thermostat control. Multiple food cooking stations. Grease hoods with exhaust/make-up air and lights. Canopy style compensating hoods, and new power service and electrical transformer for increased cooking loads moved into dining.

New plumbing for kitchen hot water system, new lighting and fire protection systems for remodeled kitchen and partial topographic survey, exterior courtyard and parking access improvements.

Arcadia Bluffs Clubhouse

Engineering services for a new 8,200 sf upper level floor suite addition, plus renovation to the original building clubhouse, including a full kitchen remodel. $2.5 million construction cost.

The existing HVAC system was replaced with a Central system monitored by a new building management system.

Mechanical engineering design included geothermal heating, ventilation and air conditioning design to meet ASHRAE standards, plumbing design including domestic water, sanitary sewer, gas piping, and roof storm water drainage systems.

Electrical engineering design included site lighting design, interior power distribution design, emergency power for the entire building, interior lighting design including branch circuiting and switching, interior telephone and data processing system provisions, and fire alarm system design.

Lighthouse Development

The project includes remodeling an early 1900’s two story wood framed building and a two story addition along the front. The total project size is 15,000 square feet with a construction cost of $2Million. The project received LEED certification.

Civil engineering included site design, layout, and a storm water management system that included new “porous pavement”. Close coordination with the City Planning Department was required to meet new City guidelines for stormwater system design.

Structural engineering included a new elevator shaft, stairs, and the new steel framed two story addition. Floors were reinforced to accommodate new higher live loads and new roof top equipment.

Mechanical engineering for the building included HVAC design of a split furnace system with Energy Recovery Units and Building Energy Management System controls with CO2 sensors for optimization of energy usage. Design also included plumbing design of domestic water, sanitary sewer and gas piping, and fire protection systems. Engineering also included performing energy model studies, life cycle cost analysis, and design provisions to meet the Michigan Energy Code and Michigan Building Code

Electrical engineering included interior power distribution and lighting design, and provisions for telephone and data processing systems. Site lighting design was also provided.
